Sovereign funds are good, Doha forum told 2008-04-15 |
Speaking at the eighth Doha Forum on Democracy, Development, and Free Trade, on a panel on ‘Economy – Size of Liquidity’, Sir Arthur referred to a growing suspicion in the US and some parts of Europe about the motives of the funds and calls for their regulation.
“The reasons include the growth of sovereign wealth funds in number and value,” he explained while recalling that if the total value of the funds had used to be $500bn 18 years ago, it now stood at $3tn now and predicted it would rise to $10 to $12tn in five years.
